Born in Tanzania, but living in Australia since she was eight, Beckah Amani writes poetic, intimate songs that draw deeply on personal topics of heartbreak, identity and being placeless. Her debut release Standards, written around the time of the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, was a radical reclaiming of self and showed her flair for conveying powerful messages through raw and delicate songwriting. Winning the Queensland Music Award for Emerging Artist of the Year and the prestigious Billy Thorpe Scholarship in 2021, has empowered Amani to stay true to the music that moves her most – a blend of folk, pop and soulful R&B.
