Dancer-choreographer Amrita Hepi sells out her nationwide pop culture dance classes in seconds. Now she takes a turn to the left, mashing up a dance class with a performance lecture in Power Moves For Perilous Times – a high-energy workshop designed to empower and motivate the self (and the masses) through movement.
Recharge in this 60 minute beginners’ dance class and expand your power movement repertoire with techniques from the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna, John Travolta, Willie Ninja, Bruce Lee, Grace Jones and GoGo Yubari. Look good, feel the burn, channel the power. This class is open to all bodies – no dance experience necessary!
ABOUT AMRITA HEPI
Amrita Hepi is an award-winning First Nations dancer and choreographer from Bundjulung (Australia) and Ngapuhi (New Zealand) territories.
She has worked with leading Australian dance companies Force Majeure, Marrugeku (performing “Le Dernier Appel/The Last Cry” at WOMADelaide 2019) and OCHRES and toured work nationally and internationally through Europe and the USA. She trained at the NAISDA (National Aboriginal & Islander Skills Development Association) Dance College and also at the prestigious Alvin Ailey Dance Theater in New York.
In 2018 she was the recipient of the People's Choice Award for the Keir Choreographic Award commission and was also named one of Forbes Asia top ‘30 under 30’. Amrita has also worked in various commercial capacities and has been commissioned by ASOS UK to create and choreograph film works, given TED X talks at the Sydney Opera House and been featured globally in Vogue USA, TeenVogue USA, Nowness, Instyle, Harpers Bazaar and PAPER US.
An artist with a broad global reach and following, Amrita combines her interest in advocacy for First Nations’ sovereignty with a compelling and diverse physical practice.
