At first glance, the worlds of Giddens, a Grammy Award-winning folk and traditional fiddle and banjo player and Turrisi, a pianist and percussionist well versed in jazz, early music and Mediterranean music, would not seem to overlap. But a chance meeting showed that her 19th Century American minstrel banjo tunes and his traditional Sicilian Tamburello (tambourine) rhythms fit naturally together. The result is a gorgeous collaboration celebrating how music has stepped over borders throughout history.
