There is no doubt that he is Australia’s greatest and most enduring songwriter - but Paul Kelly’s impact goes even deeper than that. His songs have a way of digging into the country in a way that few artists can do, how it looks, feels, tastes, sounds; the joys and sorrows, achievements and follies. From humble beginnings in the pub-rock scene over forty years ago, his remarkable career has included being front man for The Dots, The Coloured Girls, and The Messengers. His eclectic repertoire has ranged from bluegrass to dub; straddled folk, rock and country, earned him 14 ARIA awards, the 1997 Hall of Fame, and the 2017 Order of Australia. Kelly is making a welcome return to WOMADelaide after performing at the inaugural event in 1992, on the one-off WOMAD Indian Pacific train trip in 1996, and at the 1997 and 2006 festivals.
