The Taste the World Restaurant will return to WOMADelaide from March 10-13, 2023, led for the first time by Soi.38’s and Tasting Australia’s Terry Intarakhamhaeng and Sanctuary’s Executive Chef, Jack Bird.

Located in the award-winning Sanctuary Adelaide Zoo and accessible directly from Botanic Park, Taste the World Restaurant @ Sanctuary will boast stunning views into the iconic Adelaide Zoo and Botanic Park, allowing guests to dine in comfort and enjoy a uniquely designed menu, while in the midst of the sights and sounds of WOMADelaide.

Diners will be able to indulge in an exclusive $65 per person three-course banquet for lunch or dinner, with chefs Terry Intarakhamhaeng and Jack Bird serving up a feast for the senses at the Taste the World Restaurant. The menu will explore the fresh and vibrant flavours of Thailand and beyond, including dishes such as Panaeng Beef - Coconut braised beef brisket panaeng curry, and Miang kham - Prawn with caramelised palm sugar, toasted coconut, ginger, lemon, shallots and betel leaf.

Thai-Australian chef Terry Intarakhamhaeng and his restaurant Soi.38 were the winner of the 2019 Best Thai Restaurant in SA at the National Savour Awards for Excellence. Having worked alongside notable chefs Benjamin Cooper (Chin Chin) and culinary legend Cheong Liew at Tasting Australia, Intarakhamhaeng will be sure to bring his unique touch to the restaurant, which is making a welcome return to the festival after a three-year absence.

Joining Intarakhamhaeng is Jack Bird, former Head Chef of Adelaide’s famed Restaurant Botanic and current Executive Chef at Sanctuary Adelaide Zoo. His career includes three years with Shane Delia of Maha Restaurant fame delving into Middle Eastern cuisine and flavours and  Bird, who worked at the Restaurant Botanic from 2018-2022, was integral to its success and brings that expertise to the award-winning Sanctuary.

Terry and Jack are following in the footsteps of MasterChef alumni Jock Zonfrillo, Poh Ling Yeow of Poh’s Kitchen and Andre Ursini of ORSO, who have all previously delivered a refined dining experience to WOMADelaide patrons at the Taste the World Restaurant.

Terry Intarakhamhaeng says he can’t wait to lead the Taste the World Restaurant with Jack in 2023 and create a truly special gastronomic adventure for WOMADelaide audiences.

“I’m excited to be a part of such a unique and wonderful festival experience and thrilled to be bringing the flavours of Thailand to the Taste the World Restaurant @ Sanctuary Adelaide Zoo. Guests can relax and enjoy some great food as well as the incredible sights and sounds of WOMADelaide,” said Terry Intarakhamhaeng.

WOMADelaide Director Ian Scobie says he is excited by the return of the Taste the World Restaurant for 2023 in its new location.

“After two festivals without the ability to deliver the acclaimed festival restaurant, it’s great to have it return, hosted within the comfort of Sanctuary Adelaide Zoo. It will be wonderful for WOMADelaide audiences to take some ‘time out’ in the relaxed comfort of Sanctuary, while still immersed in the festival going on below them, and we are sure that this will be an exceptional festival dining experience. We can’t wait to see how Chef Intarakhamhaeng and Chef Bird make the Taste the World Restaurant their own.”

Bookings are essential for all sessions as space is limited, and all diners must have a valid ticket to WOMADelaide to gain entry.
