Julian Burnside AO QC is an Australian barrister who specialises in commercial litigation and is deeply involved in human rights work, particularly in relation to refugees. In 2003 he compiled book of letters written by asylum seekers held in Australia’s detention camps. He is also the author of a book of essays on language and etymology, his most recent publication is Watching Out: Reflections on Justice and Injustice. He is a former president of Liberty Victoria, and is also passionately involved in the arts. Among his many accolades, he’s been elected as a National Living Treasure (2004) and been made an Officer of the Order of Australia.
