Carmel Johnston recently finished serving as the Crew Commander of The University of Hawaii’s 365 day Mars simulation mission (Hi-SEAS 4) co-funded by NASA where she and five other people lived in complete isolation for an entire year to simulate a Mars mission. With a Masters of Science in Land Resources and Environmental Sciences from Montana State University, she was able to apply her passion for science and sustainable living to amongst other things grow vegetables for the crew.
