Dr Charlie Veron is a world authority on coral and was the first full-time researcher on the Great Barrier Reef. Best known for his work on building a taxonomic framework for corals, he has named about 20 per cent of reef corals and campaigned extensively on climate change, ocean acidification and other environmental issues.
