On Sunday evening at 6pm, hundreds of kids and adults join a colourful and noisy procession as it snakes around Botanic Park. Throughout the weekend, in the lead-up to the parade, Melbourne artist Amanda King will lead workshops in the big tent at KidZone to make items that can be carried or worn in the parade – including bright and shiny Samba Kings and Queens costumes.

In 2009, for the first time, when the Samba Parade is on, all seven stages at the festival will be quiet for 20 minutes.

Musical Directors Joel Prime and Ben Todd will lead a troupe of more than 50 local percussionists to keep the beat of the parade. And for willing public participants, there will be a dance workshop before the parade, to make sure that everyone is ready to samba!
