Spiro

UK

"This is soulful music, passionate music, and I love it" said Peter Gabriel about Spiro, the instrumental quartet who create a sound much bigger than their four acoustic instruments rightfully should. The band often take old English tunes and bend them out of shape in their complex musical web, with no soloing and an intricate overlay of tones and chords which the band call ‘the mesh’. It has been likened to contemporary classical, systems music, folk and techno. All four members of the band will show how they take a tune and build and arrange it into something unique and you will hear how it progresses from the ‘trot’ source to the final sound. The band will invite the audience to ask questions about their techniques before playing them out with a couple of their trademark songs. Come and share this rare insight into the compositional techniques of one of Europe's most innovative bands.
