Luzmila Carpio

Bolivia

Celebrating the ancient songs and cultural ways of the Andes, Luzmila Carpio sings in the 2000-year-old Quechua tongue. Her mesmerising voice is unique; Yehudi Menuhin described her as a “singing violin”. Wearing colourful traditional costume, she sings about the Quechua’s ancestral veneration of the earth as her rebellion against western ways over indigenous traditions.
