Vale Cesária Evora

The beautiful, legendary Cesária Evora, known as the "Barefoot Diva" died over the weekend at age 70. Evora, from Cape Verde, won international acclaim as a singer of great emotion after her first album in the 1980s.

The Grammy winning singer (who was also awarded the French Legion of Honour by President Nicholas Sarkozy in 2010) was a favourite on many world music circuits and will be sorely missed by so many. Evora was scheduled to perform at WOMADelaide 2008 but suffered a stroke in Melbourne in the days prior and was sadly forced to return home.

Our thoughts are with her family - her music will live on for many years to come.

Rest In Peace
