for the first time you can offset your carbon footprint

How do we work out your carbon footprint?

All carbon offsets are determined by a mean average travel and utilities cost for the presentation of the WOMADelaide event. With the help of Canopy, Greening Australia will conduct an audit of WOMADelaide 2008. At the 2007 event, they surveyed festival goers about their mode of transport to and from the event and the distances they traveled etc, to arrive at a total carbon emissions figure..

Offset level 1: this will cover your travel to and from the event.

Offset level 2: this will cover your travel to and from the event and also food and beverage production on site.

Offset level 3: this will contribute towards offsetting WOMADelaide itself - over 500kg of CO2 - covering:

  • Event transport
  • Waste
  • Energy including fuel and electricity
  • Food and beverage production
  • Artists' flights
  • Your travel
  • Production of materials including fliers, brochures and paper materials

By doing this you not only reducing your carbon footprint you are also building biodiversity in South Australia's unique and threatened landscapes.

Australia's largest environmental organisation, Greening Australia has joined forces with WOMADelaide to make this event Carbon neutral through local biodiverse tree plantings.

Over the last five years, no other organization in the country has planted more trees for environmental repair. Greening Australia provides expertly managed, large-scale tree planting, which has been proven to offset CO2 emissions, recover landscapes and nurture biodiversity.

Greening Australia with the support of Canopy guarantees that every tree planted for carbon offset will remain in the ground for over 100 years. What's more, Greening Australia is fully compliant with the Kyoto Climate Control Treaty and the NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme.
