While studying at Koori Kollij in Collingwood, Kutcha started singing in 1991 and was soon touring the world with Melbourne Koori band Blackfire. He started a solo career in 2002, wrote and produced his own theatre show, Songlines of a Mutti Mutti Man, and issued a new CD, Hope, in 2007, supported by his new six-man band.
