WOMADELAIDE 2001 program highlights
  Fruit (Australia)
“Best described as acoustic pop, Fruit’s eclectic set also touches funk, blues rock and groove.  Without a doubt heart thumping, hard hitting stuff.  3 songwriters, 3 lead vocals, huge harmonies, spirited musicianship and upfront performance.  Their speciality?  To raise the roof and bring a swing to every hip in the house…” Off Beat Magazine, Vancouver BC, 2000

They’ve only been together five short years and in that time Fruit have grown from a popular local Adelaide outfit to an internationally renowned and sought-after act.  In 1999, a 4 ½ month international tour saw Fruit play in excess of 100 shows covering 5 countries including WOMAD Seattle (where they sold a record-breaking 580 CDs in just two days) and five sold-out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2000 they toured to North America and Singapore, WOMAD festivals in Hanover and Rivermead, and an Australian Tour.  The group have recorded 3 CDs, ‘Fruit’ (1996); ‘Skin’ (1997); ‘Shift Live’ (1998)  plus an EP earlier this year.  Fruit are:  Mel Watson; Sam Lohs; Catherine Oates; Susie Keynes; Yanya Boston.
