  FourPlay String Quartet (Australia)
“more Metallica than Mozart – the first string quartet to have inspired moshing and crowd surfing” The Sydney Morning Herald

Eclectic Electric String Quartet, that’s Australia’s FourPlay in a nutshell.  Between rock and classical music, FourPlay are Australia’s premier independent rock’n’roll string quartet.  Their performances feature covers from such bands as Beastie Boys, the Cure, Depeche Mode, Nirvana, the Police and the Beatles!  Plus some contemporary classical music, and their own originals.  Originally made up of friends who met through the Australian Youth Orchestra, FourPlay started life as a classical string quartet, but inspired by the Kronos, Balanescu and Brodsky Quartets, soon transformed themselves into an electric string quartet, blurring the boundaries between classical and rock music.  FourPlay are in demand as session players, having already performed on releases from many of Australia’s most popular recording artists’, including The Whitlams’ ARIA award-winning album ‘Eternal Nightcap’.  They perform at venues as diverse as grungy rock pubs, jazz clubs and the Sydney Opera House, and share stages with rock bands, techno artists and pop groups.  They have appeared at rock, folk and pop festivals, including, Port Fairy, Big Day Out, Woodford, Livid, Melbourne and Sydney Arts Festivals, and come to Womadelaide 2001 hot on the heels of a successful overseas tour which saw them perform at the Edinburgh Fringe in Scotland, the Ghent Festival in Belgium and the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in Prague, just to mention a few.  FourPlay have released two CDs, “Catgut Ya’ Tongue?” (1998) and the recent “The Joy Of…”   FourPlay are: Lara Goodridge, violin and vocals;  Veren Grigorov, viola and vocals; Tim Hollo, viola and vocals; Peter Hollo, cello and vocals.
