Directed by Eko Supriyanto, Cry Jailolo is a contemporary interpretation of Javanese dance, set to a hypnotic soundtrack and performed by an untrained, all-male ensemble. It is also an environmental commentary about Indonesia’s North Maluku islands, home to some of the world’s greatest diving, and an expression of hope that destruction of the coral reefs will stop and the soul of the ocean will be restored.
