WOMADelaide has won "Best Contemporary Music Festival" at the 2016 Helpmann Awards, in a category that included fellow finalists Bluesfest Byron Bay, St Jerome's Laneway and MONA FOMA.

The annual Helpmann Awards recognise distinguished artistic achievement and excellence in the many disciplines of Australia's vibrant live performance sectors. Named in honour of Sir Robert Helpmann and to commemorate his memory and achievements, the awards were established in 2001 by Live Performance Australia (LPA) to recognise, celebrate and promote our live performance industry.

WOMADelaide director Ian Scobie has said of the honour -

"We are absolutely thrilled to have WOMADelaide 2016 acknowledged as Australia’s Best Contemporary Music Festival as we look to our milestone 25th festival in 2017; the WOMADelaide family has grown so much since the event was first presented in the 1992 Adelaide Festival. It's an honour to be recognised alongside the esteemed company of our fellow nominees and many, many thanks must go to all the great artists, audiences, sponsors, staff, volunteers and supporters who have made it so."

WOMADelaide 2017 will mark the festival's 25th anniversary, and will take place in Botanic Bark, Adelaide from 10-13 March 2017.
