Earth Station ends

The WOMADelaide foundation today announced that WOMAD Earth Station will not continue in the future.

With a unique festival program combining sustainability talks and artist performances, WOMAD Earth Station was held in the Belair National Park in October 2011 as a companion event of the long running and highly successful WOMADelaide festival.

WOMADelaide director, Ian Scobie said following an extensive review, the Board of the WOMADelaide Foundation - the presenting body of the festival -has reluctantly made the difficult decision to no longer stage Earth Station.

“The harsh reality is the current tough economic climate and the financial risks associated with establishing an ambitious and unique new annual event like Earth Station has forced us to reassess the event’s long-term viability.” Mr Scobie said.

“From the feedback I have received from many people, I’m sure that Earth Station will go down as an important and exciting event in the memories of all who attended and participated.

“This support has inspired us to look into integrating Earth Station programming ideas in future WOMADelaide festivals such as The Planet Talks, and I can see it enhancing the WOMAD experience for fans of the festival for years to come ” said Mr Scobie

The first program announcement for WOMADelaide 2013 (8-11 March, Botanic Park) will be released in October.
